Official campsites
Formal campsites are rare and usually very basic. In popular areas like near Ulaanbaatar or around Lake Khuvsgul you might find some designated grounds with simple toilets and maybe a few facilities. Most of them are quite basic compared to Europe or North America. They serve more as safe bases rather than comfortable holiday spots. Outside the main tourist routes you will hardly find any organized camping infrastructure at all.

Glamping and comfortable options
Glamping is still very limited in Mongolia. There are a few luxury ger camps aimed at tourists especially in the Gobi Desert or near national parks. These offer comfortable beds, private bathrooms and good food but they are quite expensive and feel more like tourist experiences than real camping. For most people who come to Mongolia the appeal lies in the wild and nomadic style rather than luxury.

Mongolia is strongly wild-heavy. The camping culture here is shaped by the nomadic lifestyle and the extreme environment. Days can be very hot while nights get freezing cold so proper layering is essential. Dust storms, sudden rain and vast distances mean you should travel with reliable gear, good navigation and enough supplies. Horse trekking combined with camping is very popular and gives you access to even more remote areas.
